Android has become the most widely used operating system on smartphones since its inception in 2008. Smartphones running the Android operating system hold an 87 percent share in the whole world which in stark contrast to Apple’s IOS which has only 13 percent market share. Android has also become one of the best platforms for mobile apps, with some of the most popular apps available in the Google Play Store.
Google has to keep updating its software to provide more new features and updated security to its android users hence android is regularly updated. The latest version of Android is Android 10 also known as Android Q which was released in September 2019.
Soon after its launch leaks started to follow how google was quickly preparing for its next launch of called the Android 11. After much wait, Google was expected to release its developer version of Android 11 on Wednesday, 3 June 2020. The launch was delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Google responded by saying that it is not the right time to celebrate which comes after large scale civil unrest in the US over the killing of a man in police custody and the pandemic. However, Google did not state the reasons for the delay. Google promised its developers that Android 11 has a tonne of new capabilities for apps, like enhancements for foldable smartphones and 5G, call-screening APIs, new media and camera capabilities, machine learning, native screen recorder, chat bubbles, a notification history, Increase touch sensitivity and much more. Google has still launched the beta version of Android 11 also called Developer Preview 4 for its Pixel users especially the Pixel 4 series and Pixel 3. Though right now there will be a lot of bugs and the OS needs to be fine-tuned for mass use. It is also suspected to have an upgraded power menu that Google started building out on Pixel smartphones this year and also includes smart home controls. This updated power menu design in Android 11 would integrate the quick wallet from Pixel’s, but open that API to any app like Google Pay. Though other companies could adopt this feature for their own wallets like Samsung Pay. Google is also keen to add Quick Controls which will be user-customizable and can be used to control smart things powered by Android. It’ll be interesting to see how other OEMs and companies which used android and adapt its functionality to make their OS, adopt these features over time, but right now, this is a huge reason for everyone to be excited about Android 11.
It is now being said that whenever technology makes life easier probably the reason in android. Every smart technology seems to be working on android. The main reason for the success if android is that it open to everyone develops and designers alike which also means more people can input into the working of android where IOS is considered to be a very close platform. Another advantage which android has its open source and Linux based which has so many advantages. It is also important to note that the Mac OS is also Linux based but not open-source software. Android was first created by a company called Android Inc. and acquired by Google in 2005. And Android 11 is going to be the 18th version of this line. Keep in mind that Android 11 will have many more updates that are more technical and the end-user will not notice them but will affect their user experience. Many new features will be introduced in Android 11 and once it is rolled out for public use many features will pop-up. Till then stay tuned for more updates.
