The world’s cheapest computer is here. Launched on the crowd-funding website Kickstarter, the fully functional computer with built-in WiFi costs just $9. Named CHIP, the development board looking device can run a full Linux desktop and do all what a normal computer does. From surfing with chromium to chatting in Pidgin, CHIP does it all!
The device comes with 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of onboard storage and Bluetooth to connect cordless peripherals. One can also watch videos on VLC using the 2.3 x 1.5 inches tiny computer.
The device board is cheap as its core has been pulled out of an inexpensive Chinese tablet. CHIP which uses a powerful System-on-Chip, is installed in numerous bargain-priced devices on sites like Aliexpress or Geekbuying.
While you will need to pay $10 extra for a VGA and $15 for HDMI port, spend $40 more and it will turn a handheld PC that looks like a maker’s BlackBerry.
CHIP is expected to be shipped somewhere in May, 2016.
