Thoughtworks Named one of India’s Top 10 Places to Work for Women by the Great Place to Work® Institute

ThoughtWorks, a global technology consultancy, has been recognized as one of India’s Top 10 Best Workplaces for Women in 2023 (Large Category), by Great Place to Work® Institute. The study is India’s largest annual assessment of workplace excellence, and is based on confidential employee feedback and an audit of management processes.  Over 1450 organizations and 39 lakh employees were surveyed, belonging to a range of sectors such as Information Technology, Manufacturing, Finance, Transportation, Retail and Education, among others.

This accolade underscores Thoughtworks’ unwavering commitment to finding and nurturing talent and fostering a workplace environment which facilitates inclusion, diversity, and gender equality. The organization takes structured and strategic actions to address gender biases and ensure equity within its business operations.

Over the years, Thoughtworks India has built an efficient and intuitive support system built on progressive employee policies and retention strategies — which has collectively contributed to ensuring      women have      the opportunity to forge successful careers as technologists. For instance, to maintain gender equality in pay, the company actively involves women in the pay review committee and conducts thorough gender pay equality assessments during performance evaluations. Thoughtworks also boasts an array of meticulously designed career entry programs aimed at fostering a professional and corporate environment. Among these programs is ‘Vapasi’, a technically rigorous training initiative tailored for women who are returning to the workforce after a career hiatus, specifically targeting their reintegration into the tech industry.

Speaking about the GPTW recognition, Mr. Chirag Doshi, Head of People for Thoughtworks in India, stated, “We are delighted to be recognised as one of India’s best workplaces for women, which stands testament to our commitment of fostering an environment where every woman in tech feels valued. With the gender disparity that currently exists in the tech sector, we understand the importance of creating a culture that actively champions fairness and gender equality.      We believe      the true power of technology lies in the diverse perspectives that shape it. This recognition only inspires us to continue to champion gender equality, and foster an inclusive community where women technologists reach their full potential”

Earlier this month, Thoughtworks was also the recipient of the esteemed WEQUITY award and      recognized as the “Most Inclusive Organization for Women in Tech 2023” within the IT Services category for companies with 1000 to 5000 employees.

The company’s  inclusive initiatives such as Cod(H)er – a monthly meetup to promote sharing of technical knowledge and increase collaboration among women techies, and Women@Thoughtworks – an affinity group of women focusing on empowerment, capability building, improving work-life balance, and having a safe forum to discuss sensitive topics contributes to the ‘equal opportunity’ workplace that Thoughtworks is building     .

The company implemented a six-month maternity leave policy much before the legal mandate for the same was initiated in India. The maternity leave is applicable for women who have opted to      have a child through surrogacy or adoption. Thoughtworks is also dedicated to the empowerment of women through workshops and policies such as Social Change Interviews, Global Interviewer Training Sessions, Inclusivity Workshops and Employee Resource Groups.
