Honeymoon couples lead this summer holiday demographic with 50% bookings
India is young and it simply loves to travel! Keeping the burgeoning Indian Holiday market in mind, TravelTriangle, India’s largest holiday marketplace, recently conducted a survey to determine the summer holidaying trends in the country and has thrown up some interesting results.
Traditional summer hotspots of Goa and Jammu & Kashmir were overtaken by relatively less explored destinations. Kerala emerged as the go-to spot within India for travellers this summer with its beautiful beaches and scenic locales, whereas packages in Himachal Pradesh and Andaman Islands were also amongst other frequently booked holiday hotspots. Travellers, going abroad on the other hand, seemed to favour Mauritius, Maldives and Sri Lanka for their holidays.
One aspect that has not changed, however, is the Indian penchant for frugality. Price was often the top deciding factor for holiday package selection, followed by services offered in the itinerary and guarantee of experience.
Beaches seemed to be the most preferred destinations with more than 53% of total packages booked for destinations near coastlines. Hill-stations too continued to be popular as summer retreats with 36% holiday-goers selecting hilly destinations to beat the heat. Off-beat and adventure destinations featured in 11% of package bookings, highlighting a growing trend of opting for adventure holidays.
Speaking on the findings, Spokesperson, TravelTriangle, said, “As India’s premier full-stacked holiday marketplace, technology-driven customisable holiday solutions have always been at the forefront of TravelTriangle’s deliverables. An overwhelming majority of holiday-goers (65%) preferred to travel for medium duration trips, whereas short weekend getaways accounted for 25%. Long duration holidays were less preferred, amounting to a mere 10% of the total bookings. The report, which was compiled using TravelTriangle’s internal booking data, also singled-out honeymoon couples at 50% as the leading holiday demographic. Summer vacations and leisure holidays with family made for 32% travellers, whereas 18% of holidays were undertaken because of religious and spiritual reasons.
