Truecaller has introduced an AI-powered feature named ‘Truecaller Assistant’ in India, aimed at automatically answering calls

Truecaller, the caller identification app, has introduced an AI-based feature known as Truecaller Assistant to aid users in answering calls. This feature, currently available in Hindi, English, and the hybrid ‘Hinglish’ languages in India, acts as an innovative form of answering machines by responding to calls on behalf of users.

Additionally, the AI-powered bot offers real-time transcriptions of conversations between the caller and the user. Initially launched in the US and subsequently expanded to other global markets, the feature will debut on Android devices, with plans for an iOS release in the near future. The company intends to further include more Indian languages into the system.

In light of the Indian market’s significance to Truecaller, this addition aims to enhance user experience by managing and minimizing disruptions caused by spam calls, which even though filtered out by Truecaller, can still be a source of disturbance. Notably, India accounted for over 75% of Truecaller’s revenue in Q1 2023, reflecting the company’s strategic focus on growth in the region.

Truecaller has expressed its support for the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill recently approved by the government. In a statement, the company emphasized its dedication to ensuring secure communication both in India and globally. It affirmed its intention to adhere to all stipulations of the forthcoming regulations and conveyed optimism about the bill’s implications.

Alan Mamedi, the CEO and co-founder of Truecaller, asserted that the company’s assessment is that the new law will not substantially impact the user experience. The statement reflects Truecaller’s commitment to maintaining user privacy and complying with evolving data protection regulations.
