TUV Rheinland India To Provide Testing – Certification – Consultancy And Training Services For Development Of Smart Cities And Its People

TÜV Rheinland India, a subsidiary of TÜV Rheinland Group, Germany, a worldwide leader in Testing, Training, Inspection, Consulting & Certification, has a vision that it will provide its services in the development of smart cities, especially in the areas of renewable energy, mobility, sustainable waste management, life-care and consultancy.

The aim is to improve the quality of life for the people living in smart cities. This announcement was made by Mr M. Bhaskar, Director of TUV Rheinland India, on the occasion of the company’s participation in the ‘Sustainable Smart Cities India’ event held at Mangaluru recently. This event focussed to bring the government, private and public sectors together under one roof for a high level summit of discussion, debate and business opportunities. The exclusive forum aimed to create a global knowledge sharing platform to support, recognize and encourage projects that address various needs of the community and shape the future success of leading global smart cities together.

“Such events are platforms that bring together various stakeholders and decision makers and it is imperative that all of us meet and define the smart cities of tomorrow,” said Mr M. Bhaskar. “The concept of smart cities throws in a lot of opportunities especially in the infrastructure sector and we as an Independent Testing, Training, Inspection, Consulting and Certification body feel it is of utmost importance that with our 143 years of international expertise and experience can significantly contribute to the development of smart cities.”

According to researchers of smart cities, currently, 31% of India’s population lives in cities; these cities also generate 63% of the nation’s economic activity. These numbers are rapidly increasing, with almost half of India’s population projected to live in its cities by 2030. Smart Cities focus on the most pressing needs and on the greatest opportunities to improve quality of life for residents today and in the future.

The Government of India has identified the need to create and develop well planned cities that can match and foster the rapid growth in urbanisation. The Government is acting straight forward in executing its vision of setting up 100 smart cities. The Government has already unveiled a list of 98 cities, including 24 state capitals for its ambitious Smart Cities project.

“The cities that we plan today should meet all the infrastructural needs in terms of water, power, sanitation, hygiene, education, primary health care, etc. In short, these should be self-sustainable townships and should be a role model for the future development of Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities,” added Mr M. Bhaskar.
