Chinese handset manufacturer, Umi, seems set to enter the Indian market with a 4G-enabled smartphone. The new Umi Hammer smartphone is available to buy via a third-party online retailer priced at Rs. 10,999.
So far, there has been no announcement from the company about the launch of the Umi Hammer smartphone.
The third-party retailer listing touts that the smartphone is “strongest phone ever built” as it features aviation alloy frame with a thickness of 4.3mm. The rear panel of the Umi Hammer features soft-textured polycarbonate material. The listing claims that the handset supports 4G LTE; though it doesn’t support India’s primary 4G LTE band (TDD-LTE 2300 MHz).
The dual-SIM based Umi Hammer runs Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box. The online retailer however claims that the handset is upgradable to Android 5.0 Lollipop. It comes with a 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) IPS display with dual glass and also features Corning Gorilla Glass for screen protection.
The smartphone is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek (MT6732) processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and Mali-T760 GPU. The Umi Hammer comes with 16GB of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 64GB).
It sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while there is a secondary 3.2-megapixel front-facing camera also onboard. On the connectivity front, the Umi Hammer smartphone offers 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth options. The smartphone packs a 2250mAh battery and is listed in Black and White colours. It measures 144×71.6×7.9mm and weighs 168 grams. It packs an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, magnetometer, and proximity sensor.
It’s worth mentioning that Chinese smartphone vendors like Umi are entering Indian smartphone market with offerings in the budget to mid-range segment.
Late last year, we saw Vivo entering the market and now the company has evenannounced that it would start assembling its devices in India by October this year at its Greater Noida facility. China’s Coolpad also entered India with its Dazen brand, while Phicomm launched the Passion 660 recently.
