Uninor today launched the India chapter of Digital Winners (DW) 2015 – a platform to enable youth in India to innovate mobile internet based solutions for Indian consumers. Under this programme, the company is inviting mobile application developers to showcase their mobile apps that can impact the society and have a potential to change lives of mass market consumers.
The theme for this year’s contest is ‘Education’. Participation is open to budding entrepreneurs and app developers, to submit innovative apps that have the potential to build a platform for mass education. The contest will identify cool apps that have the potential to lead us into an informed and educated world, transforming and empowering societies through mobile internet solution.
“Digital Winners is an opportunity for Indian app developers to contribute towards social change. It is our endeavour to contribute towards Digital India and bridge the gap between the tech world and masses, enabling solutions for India by India. We hope to see some path-breaking apps that helps to provide education for all,” said Vivek Sood, CEO, Telewings Communications Services (Uninor).

With Digital Winners the company has taken a targeted approach to foster innovation in the mobile Internet space to enhance education and skill development especially in the rural areas. This is in line with the Digital India mission by the Honourable Prime Minister of India.
“Through this programme, we expect to see breakthrough ideas and innovations that will solve some of the education related challenges and also help in fostering entrepreneurship and innovation in India,” said Vivek.
The winner of Digital Winners will get an opportunity to represent India at the prestigious Digital Winners Conference at Oslo in October 2015. He will participate in the “Best App in Asia” contest along with representatives from other Asian markets of Telenor and stand a chance to win cash prize of Nok 100,000.

This is the second consecutive year of the contest. In 2014, Raghavendra Kanchustambham, Founder & CEO, Concept Waves represented India at Oslo and had won the “Best App in Asia Award” for his application (Livelihood 360). Raghavendra’s app works on feature phones to help farmers with agriculture related information.
The registration for this year’s programme will start from July 8th, 2015 and will close on August 10, 2015. The top 10 shortlisted candidates’ ideas will be judged by a panel of industry experts, technology professionals, journalists and mentors on August 31, 2015.
