Unlocking of iPhone: Google CEO Sundar Pichai backs Apple

Apple CEO Tim Cook has found support from one of the most powerful people in the Silicon Valley in his battle with FBI. Google CEO Sundar Pichai hs come out openly in support of technology giant Apple.
In a series of tweets, Pichai wrote “We know that law enforcement and intelligence agencies face significant challenges in protecting the public against crime and terrorism” and that companies build secure products to keep user’s information safe and give law enforcement access to data based on valid legal orders.
However, he stressed “that’s wholly different than requiring companies to enable hacking of customer devices & data. Could be a troubling precedent” and added that will be looking “forward to a thoughtful and open discussion on this important issue”.
On Tuesday, a US judge ordered Apple to help FBI break into the iPhone of the shooter in the San Bernardino, California, terror attack.
Apple must provide “reasonable technical assistance” to investigators seeking to unlock the data on Syed Rizwan Farook’s iPhone 5C, US magistrate judge Sheri Pym ruled. This includes disabling its auto-erase function, which activates after 10 consecutive unsuccessful passcode attempts, and allowing investigators to submit passcode guesses via electronic means.
In a response posted on the company’s website early Wednesday, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that his company will fight a court’s order to hack its users in connection with the investigation of California shootings, asserting that would undermine encryption by creating a backdoor that could potentially be used on other future devices.
Cook said “this moment calls for public discussion, and we want our customers and people around the country to understand what is at stake.”
