Uttar Pradesh Government in collaboration with HP commenced distributing laptops as per its digital inclusion initiative.The laptops were given out during an event at Colvin Taluqdar’s College in Lucknow.
It maybe recalled that HP bagged the order worth 2,800 crore rom the UP state government on January 28, 2013.
The company will distribute 15 lakh notebooks to students passing Class 12 or equivalent examinations in 2012, across 313 tehsils, in the state.
As part of the contract, HP will supply the HP Pavilion G4 notebooks with 14-inch display, 1024×768 pixels, 2 GB internal memory, 500 GB HDD, webcam, three hours of power backup, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.
The notebooks are dual-boot running Windows 7 loaded with the student license of MS Office 2010, along with Ubuntu Linux.
Other features include 3 USB ports, HDMI port, media card reader, a port for the microphone jack, VGA, headphone and speaker, a DVD Read and Write optical drive and support typing in three languages—English, Hindi and Urdu.
HP will also set-up a call center at Lucknow along with service centers at all the 313 tehsils. It will also maintain a stock of fast moving spares parts at all its service centers for faster repair and turnaround time. The performance report will be shared with U. P. Electronics Corporation Limited team on an ongoing basis.
Besides, it will train teachers and students on the use of the product in English and Hindi.
