The government has launched the ‘Bharat Nirman’ portal along with a free SMS news service, in collaboration with the All India Radio, Manish Tewari, Information and Broadcasting Minister announced on 9 September.
The website (Bharat Nirman) has been launched for the government to put up all the public welfare schemes that it has come up with in one place. Currently in its first phase, the phase II of the project will make it available in 11 languages apart from Hindi and English.
The UPA government’s new campaign is essentially a way to bring to the public a report of the schemes and programmes that have been implemented by the public. The website also has social network integration with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social networking website. It has content on Aadhar, Direct Cash Transfer, Land Acquisition Bill and the much talked about Food Security Bill.
The free SMS news service that has been launched was actually started as a pilot project about six months ago. This programme aims to gather 5,00,000 subscribers by the end of this month. For subscription, the public just has to send an SMS saying “AIRNEWS ‘Your Name’” to 08082080820. There is also an option to give a missed call on the same number in order to subscribe.
