Vodafone India’s CIO To Leave

Vodafone India’s chief information officer Anthony Thomas has just Vodafone_logoput in his papers to pursue other opportunities, according to two people directly familiar with the developments. Both of them requested anonymity.

The development comes months before Vodafone’s $1-billion outsourcing contract with International Business Machines (IBM) is set to expire. Talks to renew the deal are currently underway, according to people familiar with the developments.

On Wednesday, Vodafone also sent out an internal mail to employees confirming Thomas’s exit from the company. The company is yet to announce who will replace Thomas as the new CIO.

“Anthony Thomas, chief information officer, India, has decided to pursue career opportunities outside Vodafone. His last day at Vodafone will be September 15, 2015,” Vodafone said in the mail.

A Vodafone spokesperson declined to comment. “We are not commenting at this point,” said the spokesperson.

Thomas joined Vodafone in April 2012 and played a key role in creating a new centralized IT structure within the company during his tenure. During his stint at Vodafone, the company also rolled out several new technology initiatives including the company’s microfinancing service m-pesa and also a new data warehouse.

Prior to Vodafone, Thomas had stints at companies such as Citigroup, Ernst & Young and Intelligroup.
