While 2 in 1 detachable devices are still relatively new in the computing market, the convertible segment is poised to swell its market share in the coming years citing the flexibility these devices offer to switch between different modes. As per research firm Strategy Analytics, 2 in 1 hybrid devices running Windows OS are expected to gain traction as most businesses across the globe run Windows on their PCs and servers. This will conclude in a hassle free integration of Windows based 2 in 1s with the enterprise IT architecture. And while the launch of Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 has been the talk of the town in the convertible market, the recent addition to the segment- YOGA 900 convertible laptop by Lenovo which features powerful specifications including a 6th generation Core i7 processor coupled with an 8GB RAM will further fuel the demand of 2 in 1s in the country. ”By 2019, 2-in-1 tablet growth will show a five-year compound average growth rate (CAGR) of 57 percent while slate tablet growth will amount to a 2 percent five-year CAGR,” predicts Strategy Analytics. Another factor which has worked in favour of 2 in 1s is the shrinking price tags of these devices as manufacturers aim to compete with the tablet segment. It is also important to note that while 2 in 1s can be utilized for both content creation and consumption, tablets at present are primarily used for the latter. It wouldn’t come as a surprise if few years down the line, 2 in 1s emerge as the dominant devices in both enterprise as well as end consumer markets, shrinking the market of laptops and tablets with falling prices and rapid improvements in specifications.
