ICANN 64 inaugurated this Sunday on 9th of March 2019 with utter prestige and eminence. Over 400 representatives from all across the globe joined in to witness a technical meet, specifically targeted towards the Internet utility and Universal Acceptance. On the very first day, a warm welcoming ceremony was hosted by the esteemed guests from Kobe, Japan, who not only thanked the attendees for their presence but also presented some influential views on the work process at ICANN, the importance of the internet and various other developments since the body was first formed.
First off, Mr Jia-Rong Low, ICANN’s vice president and managing director of the Asia-Pacific region greeted the honorary participants and attendees and welcomed them to the 64th ICANN annual meet. He also thanked and acknowledged the Internet sister organizations namely Internet Engineering Task Force (ISOC), Internet Society, the regional Internet registries, and many others for their contribution. In his welcome speech, he talked about the transition of IANA to multi-stakeholder model and ended his speech by thanking the entire APAC community and wished them luck.
Next up, came Mr Goran Marby, President and CEO of ICANN org. who had presented a brief thought on the role and advancement in modern Internet and how ICANN is funding a global development in this space. This was his 10th ICANN meeting in Kobe where he had some great experiences to share.
He next invited Ms Yukari Sato, State Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications to the stage who briefly mentioned the multi-stakeholder model of the ICANN body along with various noteworthy changes in the internet model.
After Mr Marby concluded his speech with some great thoughts, Mayor of the City of Kobe, Mr Kizo Hisamoto took to the stage and had a word about the history of Kobe and the role of communication and internet in making it a productive state. The chair of the ICANN64 Local Host Committee, Dr Jun Murai along with other important personalities also shared their viewpoints later.
