WhatsApp has introduced a Mac application that enables users to make video and audio calls

WhatsApp, the well-known messaging platform owned by Meta, has unveiled a dedicated app for Apple’s Mac computers, allowing users to engage in both video and audio calls. This move marks the expansion of WhatsApp’s capabilities beyond mobile devices to the Mac platform.

The newly introduced WhatsApp app for Mac facilitates video calls with a capacity of up to eight participants and audio calls accommodating up to 32 participants. Notably, participants can seamlessly join ongoing group calls, enhancing the app’s user-friendly features.

Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, made the announcement about the Mac app’s launch during a broadcast on the official Meta Channel on Instagram. Zuckerberg highlighted the app’s ability to support group video calls with a maximum of eight participants and audio calls with as many as 32 participants. The broadcast also included a screenshot of the app interface, offering a sneak peek into its functionality.

Both the Mac and Windows desktop versions of the app prioritize security, utilizing encryption to safeguard users’ calls and messages across their devices.

Downloading the WhatsApp app for Mac is a straightforward process: users can visit the official WhatsApp website, locate the download button for the Mac version, and initiate the download. After the download is complete, they can install the application and log into their WhatsApp account using a QR code scanner or their phone number.

The new WhatsApp app for Mac is now available on the Apple App Store, offering users easy access to the app’s features on their Mac devices.

However, it’s important to note that the WhatsApp app for Mac requires macOS 11 or a more recent version, as indicated in the official announcement by WhatsApp. This ensures that users have the compatible operating system to make use of the app’s capabilities on their Mac computers.
