Chinese startup Xiaomi has big plans for the strategic Indian market in 2015, including bringing in more value-for-money products, boosting after-sales service and investing in local startups.
Xiaomi has come up with its latest product ‘Mi TV 2’. The company earlier had launched its first Mi TV 2 with a 124. 5-cm (49-inch) 4K display. However the new product is the smaller variant of the previous one as this TV has a 101.6-cm ( 40-inch) full HD LED display.
The smart TV (Android based) is both an entertainment system and an Android game console. It is powered by a 1.45GHz quad-core MStar 6A908 Cortex-A9 processor, has 1.5GB RAM and supports a range of apps from the Mi Store.
Another drawback which could be found by the users is that it lacks a microSD slot that was present on the Mi TV 2 4K TV. The TV measures 14.5mm at its thinnest. The new variant of Mi TV 2 sports a Sharp SDP X-GEN LED-backlit panel that offers a contrast ratio of 5000:1. With a frame of 14.5mm waistline, the smart television set runs on Android 4.4-based MIUI TV OS.
One of the interesting features of the FHD variant of Mi TV 2 that could entice users is the built-in support for popular media formats such as MKV, MP4, MOV, TS, and AVI. It also supports the emerging H.265 hardware decoding.
On its official Twitter page, Xiaomi announced that it is investing $1 billion and partnering with several China content providers to build a massive entertainment library.
