As promised, Xiaomi has rolled out the Android Oreo update to its first-ever Android One smartphone — Mi A1. This also makes Mi A1 the first smartphone from the Chinese smartphone brand to get the latest version of Android operating system. Xiaomi Mi A1 was launched with Android 7.1.2 Nougat in September last year and was said to get the update to Android Oreo by the end of the year 2017. At the time of launch, Xiaomi had also announced that the smartphone will get and Android P update as well.
As per the official post, Xiaomi is rolling out a progressive over-the-air (OTA) update on all Mi A1 smartphones starting December 31. Users first need to have Android Nougat v7.12.19 on their handsets. The size of the update is 1107.4MB.
After the Android Oreo update, Xiaomi Mi A1 gets features such as Picture-in-Picture (PIP) mode, Background limits, Audio API for Pro Audio, Snoozing individual notification, Adaptive icons, Keyboard navigation and more.
The Mi A1 is the first smartphone for which Xiaomi has ditched its native operating system MIUI. Besides this, it is also the company’s first smartphone in India to have a dual rear camera setup. The handset was originally launched in two colour options — Black and Gold. Xiaomi recently launched Red and Rose Gold colour variants of the device.
The smartphone also recently recieved a price cut of Rs 1,000. The company had launched the handset at Rs 14,999, but now post the price cut Mi A1 is available at Rs 13,999.
In terms of specs, the smartphone features a 5.5-inch full HD display with 1080×1920 pixels resolution and 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass. It is backed by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, coupled with 4GB RAM and Adreno 506 GPU. It has a 64GB in-built storage as well as external storage card support. It is backed by a 3080mAh battery and has a fingerprint sensor at the back.
At the front, the Mi A1 has a 5MP shooter. As for the back, there is a dual-rear camera setup comprising of a 12MP wide angle along with a 12MP telephoto lens for bokeh effect. The telephoto lens enables 2x optical zoom along with Mi A1’s 10x digital zoom.
