ITVoice News: The Internet company, Yahoo Inc. in an essential reorganization, has started a fresh set of layoffs in India. It was operating in its Bangalore unit for quite some time now. The company has now decided to reduce size of its operations in Bangalore, India.
The action would affect hundreds of employees in Bangalore, since the company looks forward to consolidate its product engineering team at its Sunnyvale headquarters, Californina. According to a source the company would offer the job to senior executives at the Sunnyvale centre, perhaps majority of the employees were handed over pink slips.
Yahoo didn’t disclose the number of employees being affected out of this action, but the sources from the company claim it to be around 300 employees out of 800 developers have been left affected, they got the intimation on Tuesday.
All laid-off employees were given a six-month separation package and among those who were asked to relocate to the Sunnyvale but aren’t willing to do so, were given one -year12-month severance package. However, the company said that they would continue to have their presence in Bangalore, it mentioned that they are consolidating ‘certain teams into fewer offices’ in Bangalore.
There were even rumours that the company is planning to shut down entire Yohoo India R&D operations. Yahoo India issue a statement stating, “As we ensure that Yahoo is on a path of sustainable growth, we’re looking at ways to achieve greater efficiency, collaboration and innovation across our business. To this effect, we’re making some changes to the way we operate in Bangalore leading to consolidation of certain teams into fewer offices. Yahoo will continue to have a presence in India and Bangalore remains an important office.”
