BANGALORE, INDIA: Three months after it shut down its public chat rooms, Yahoo! confirms bringing the curtains down on its Messenger service on Mail Classic.
If you were using the instant messaging (IM) service, last Friday (March 22) was the final occasion you did so. “After much thought, we have decided to shut down Messenger in Yahoo! Mail Classic by March 22, 2013. This means that you will no longer be able to send IMs to your contacts from Yahoo! Mail Classic,” Yahoo! stated in a post on its Mail Classic Help.
Still, it gives users two options to continue using Yahoo! Messenger service. “Upgrade to the new Yahoo! Mail, where Messenger continues to be available. You can then send IMs directly from your inbox, as you did before.”
The second alternative is to use the Yahoo! Messenger client. “If you don’t already have it, you can download the Yahoo! Messenger client here,” adds the post.
“At Yahoo!, we’re focused on making your daily habits more inspiring and entertaining. That means we’re constantly reviewing our products and experiences and in some cases, have to make tough decisions to no longer support a product.”
