You Tube Has Decided To Close Its Popular Audio

YouTube has decided to close the popular Chrome extension which enabled users to listen to their favourite music without creating and sharing playlists. If reports are to be believed, YouTube had entered into an argument with Streamus for its non-compliance with the terms of service.

Streamus, which commenced its business in 2013, gave its users the option to select and make a playlist of YouTube videos to play the audio versions of them. As Streamus fixed YouTube’s biggest problem of an audio client and did not have many competitors, it reportedly enjoyed a good user base. Moreover, the extension was free of cost as well as ad-free.

Streamus reportedly became popular with more than 300,000 users. However, it seems that YouTube wasn’t very pleased with it as Streamus neither provided ‘back-link’ to its associated YouTube title nor did it show the related video. While Streamus is not available on the Chrome Web Store anymore, its API key has also been revoked.

Meanwhile, YouTube is looking forward to introduce its own audio service, YouTube Music Key, which might be one of the possible reasons to shut down Streamus. Perhaps, this neat little browser extension will return in some form, sooner or later.
