Micromax subsidiary Yu today unveiled its 4G device ‘Yunique’ in India for the mass market and expects to sell half a million handsets before Diwali.
Yunique, priced at Rs 4,999, will be available from September 15 through a flash sale on e-commerce major Snapdeal.
“India is at the tipping point of digital revolution and we expect 4G technology to push Internet usage to an unprecedented level. And what will play an important role there is the availability of the right devices at the right price,” Yu Televentures founder Rahul Sharma told PTI.
He added that Yunique, with its affordable pricing, aims to make a powerful device available to masses to push the ‘Digital India’ drive.
“We have seen wonderful response to our previous devices and have sold about one million devices since the first sale. For Yunique, we expect to sell about half a million units before Diwali,” he said.
The 4G-smartphone features a 4.7-inch HD IPS display, Android Lollipop 5.1 operating system, 1.2 GHz quad core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB memory, 8MP rear and 2MP front camera and 2,000 mAh battery.
“To boost adoption of 4G devices, three things — price, product and reach — will play a crucial role and that is what we aim to address with this device,” he said.
Besides, the online-only brand will also provide after sales support to Yunique devices through 825 authorized service centres across over 600 cities, in addition to its onsite doorstep delivery model.
Asked if the company was looking at taking the brand to other countries, Sharma responded in the affirmative.
“We are looking at it for next year. Right now, we are focused on the Indian market,” he said without giving further details.
