The industry leader in video conferencing, Zoom, has revealed plans to grow Zoom IQ, its smart companion, and work with OpenAI to develop a more adaptable approach to AI. New features will be added to Zoom IQ, and the company also plans to use a federated approach to AI, combining its own internally developed models with those created by companies like OpenAI or even by a select few customers, for the advantage of all users.

This strategy aims to make generative AI the main driver of improving clients’ organisational efficiency. As the models are adaptable and can be tuned to a company’s unique vocabulary and situations for better performance, the combination of multiple types of AI models will be more valuable to Zoom’s customers’ varied needs. This comes after Zoom’s CEO Eric Yuan said last month that the business would investigate methods to use AI technology to help customers, as the age of AI and large language models has arrived.

To make their approach to AI more adaptable, Zoom is growing the capabilities of its Zoom IQ smart assistant and collaborating with OpenAI. The business is using a federated approach to AI and deploying a variety of AI models, including those created internally, by renowned AI firms like OpenAI, and by a select group of customers. With this strategy, Zoom will be able to best serve customers with various requirements. Three new features are also being added to Zoom IQ: Chat Write, Email Compose, and Meeting Summary.

Zoom IQ has announced the addition of three new capabilities to its platform, namely Chat Compose, Meeting Summary, and Email Compose. Chat Compose helps users to write messages based on the context of their conversation, and it can be customized to change the tone of the message and response suggestions. Meeting Summary creates meeting summaries and records post-meeting actions that can be shared via a team chat, a Zoom Calendar invite, or email. Zoom IQ Email Compose uses the context from prior Zoom meetings, Zoom Phone calls, and email threads to draft email suggestions. These new features aim to improve productivity and efficiency for users, especially those in sales.

Additionally, Zoom is introducing Intelligent Director, which will work with Zoom Rooms to decide which angle of the attendees in the room should be shown during the meeting, and Zoom Scheduler, which will integrate with Microsoft 365 and Google Calendar to share meeting participants’ availability with others, making it simpler to find a convenient meeting time. Customers can now seek early access to Zoom Huddles, formerly known as Zoom Spots, on a global scale. With these updates, Zoom is able to expand the functionality of its platform and give its users more freedom and value.
