If you’re one of the 80 million YouTube Premium users, you would know that in spite of the app’s uncontested exceptionality in video streaming, music and all forms of entertainment, some features will be available on one platform and not the other(s). As of April 11, the Google-owned property is taking steps to achieve parity across all devices be it mobile, site or the likes of Android TV and PC.
Queue Videos on Android and iOS
The queue video(s) feature has been available for PC and web users for a long time. However, Android and iOS users have been limited to the feature of ‘Add to Playlist’ which is a bit redundant and seems a bit extra to watch videos on the go. Now, the Premium version of YouTube makes it possible for mobile and tablet users to queue videos and makes video streaming more convenient on a daily basis.
Continue Watching (Now across all platforms)
Several users have to switch devices while watching content. YouTube Premium does have a feature called “continue watching” which enables users to pitch pickup from where they left off on their previous device. This feature has been intermittently available to users switching from mobile to web, but the reverse was not available till the latest update. Now users can switch back and forth between any device and continue watching (the said video appears as a box at the bottom of the screen and clicking on Play allows one to continue watching).
iOS
Now, iOS users can stream videos with their FaceTime friends in real time through ‘SharePlay’. This update is an extension of the same feature that was introduced on Google Meet last September.
YouTube officially acknowledged a high bitrate 1080p viewing option on iOS and will extend the feature to web devices too. Smart downloads, an extension of the YouTube music feature is also with mentioning in the new list of updates that YouTube Premium rolled out in its latest update.
