Amazon launches all-new Kindle at Rs 5,999

Amazon has introduced the latest version of its Kindle e-book reader at Rs 5,999. The upgraded version of the e-reader comes with a 20% faster processor, twice the storage, and a touchscreen interface.

The new Kindle is available at amazon.in/kindle and will start shipping starting October 9, 2014.

“Our new Kindle is small and light, with weeks of battery life, a 20% faster processor, twice the storage, and a touch interface,” said Peter Larsen, vice president, Amazon Kindle.

“The new Kindle includes all the features readers love—Whispersync, built-in dictionary and new exclusive features like Vocabulary builder, Kindle Freetime and Goodreads integration. It’s never been a better time to be a reader.”

The new Kindle is small, light, and portable and sports a glare-free e-ink display.

It offers enhanced reading features like instant dictionary look-up, adjustable font sizes and features for children including Kindle Freetime, Smart Lookup, and Vocabulary Builder, among others.

Kindle’s Whispersync features saves and synchronizes last page read, bookmarks, and annotations across all Kindle devices and Kindle apps. It also comes with Facebook and Twitter sharing for book recommendations, highlighted sections, and meaningful quotes.

The Kindle offers access to a large number of e-books through the Kindle Store. It includes over 600,000 books, exclusive to the Kindle Store, more than 30,000 free e-books and over one million titles at Rs 299 or less and over 250,000 titles at Rs 99 or less.

As per Amazon, new features like Word Wise and Enhanced Search will be introduced as part of a free, over-the-air software update, over the next couple of months.
