Amazon has more than set-top boxes in its sights, next up is the smartphone market
Amazon is currently keeping its cards very close to its chest. We’ve seen Amazon Fire TV but we know there’s more to be announced from the company’s camp. Rumours have suggested it will be Amazon’s very own smartphone.
Some photos have now begun to make the rounds online. The photos don’t show off the design in full as there’s a hard case around it, typical practice for prototypes.
But we do know the smartphone will feature five front-facing cameras. Before you cry out, “WHY DOES ANYONE NEED THAT MANY CAMERAS?!”, bear with us a moment.
These cameras may actually have a purpose, we think one is for standard video calling. The other four however are for some new glasses-free 3D effects. The cameras can track where your head is at all times and give you a 3D effect from the display.
If this is in fact Amazon’s new handset, it has a 4.7-inch 720p display alongside 2GB of RAM. We know the processor will be made by Qualcomm meaning it’ll be a Snapdragon, but its currently unclear which model. FireOS will come as standard which has been on the Amazon Kindle Fire devices for quite a while now.
We can’t wait to get to grips with Amazon’s new device, we want rid of that casing and to see the real design as well. It may not take long either as rumours suggest we will hear the first official details in June this year.
