AMD has inaugurated its largest global design center, the Technostar Research and Development Campus, in Bengaluru, India. Representing a significant step in the company’s commitment to expanding research, development, and engineering operations in India, the state-of-the-art campus is set to host around 3,000 AMD engineers. It will focus on the design and development of semiconductor technology, including 3D stacking, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and more.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Cabinet Minister for Railways, Telecommunications, Electronics, and Information Technology in the Government of India. Key AMD executives, including Mark Papermaster (EVP and CTO), David Wang (SVP of GPU Technologies and Engineering), Brian Amick (SVP of Central Engineering), and Andrej Zdravkovic (Chief Software Officer and SVP of GPU Technologies), were also present.
The Technostar campus is part of AMD’s $400 million investment in India over the next five years, as announced at Semicon India 2023. The facility will serve as a center of excellence for the development of leadership products across high-performance CPUs for data centers and PCs, data center and gaming GPUs, and adaptive SoCs and FPGAs for embedded devices.
Covering 500,000 square feet, the campus incorporates modern R&D labs spanning 60,000 square feet, a large demo center for showcasing AMD products and solutions, and communal spaces designed to encourage collaboration and creativity. The facility also includes amenities such as a cafeteria, gym, and yoga center to promote holistic health and well-being for AMD employees.
Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that AMD’s decision to establish its largest design center in Bengaluru is a testament to the confidence global companies have in India. Mark Papermaster expressed AMD’s confidence in India’s exceptional engineering talent, stating that the new design center will drive technology and product development across AMD’s portfolio. Jaya Jagadish, India Country Head at AMD, highlighted that the India Design Centre, which started with a handful of employees in 2004, now constitutes 25% of AMD’s global workforce.
Deepak Agarwal, Bengaluru Site Lead at AMD, emphasized the new campus as more than just a state-of-the-art building, representing AMD’s commitment to building innovative products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences.
