Android users will get new Threads features first

Meta’s microblogging platform, Threads, has gained significant attention worldwide, attracting over 1 million users within a week. While the platform has been well-received, it still requires additional features to keep users engaged. To test and introduce new features in beta, Meta has launched a Threads beta program for Android users. Interested Android users can now register for the beta version of Threads, granting them early access to upcoming features.

An engineer from Meta announced the launch of the Threads beta program, offering users the opportunity to experience new features and bug fixes before their official release. It’s important to note that as a beta program, users may encounter some instability as they download and test the builds.

Upon joining the beta program, users are informed that their app usage data will be collected and shared with the developer to improve the app’s performance. The invitation also acknowledges that testing versions may be less stable.

Joining the beta program is now open without any waitlist, allowing anyone with an Android device to try out upcoming builds and provide feedback. There is no information yet on when the beta program will be available for iOS users.

One notable complaint from users has been the absence of an option to delete their Threads account without losing Instagram. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, addressed this concern in a thread, assuring users that Meta is aware of the issue and actively working on a solution to enable users to delete their Threads account independently.

Mosseri also confirmed that Meta is currently working on implementing several highly requested features that are currently missing from the app. These include a “following” tab, hashtags, support for fediverse, and messaging functions. Additionally, the app may introduce the ability to automatically delete posts after a specified duration, such as one month or 90 days.
