Apple has announced that it will replace the battery on a select number of iPhone 5, free of charge. It said that some iPhone 5 handsets were experiencing shorter battery life or needed to be charged more frequently.Making the announcement on its website, the Cupertino giant informed that the affected iPhone 5 devices were sold between September 2012 and January 2013 and fall within a limited serial number range.

“Apple has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently,” the company said. As with other replacements and repairs, Apple advises users to back up all phone data, turn off ‘Find My iPhone’, and erase their data and settings. This can be achieved by going to the Settings menu, tap on General then Reset and finally, ‘Erase all Content and Settings.’  It’s worth pointing out that Apple is expected to announce two new iPhones on September 9.
