Applications open for Acumen’s programme for social enterprises backed by Apple

Apple has partnered with Acumen to launch the Energy for Livelihoods Accelerator program in India. The 12-week program aims to support social enterprises that focus on clean energy innovation and improving livelihoods. Through the program, Acumen experts will help social entrepreneurs scale and refine their businesses, with a focus on transforming the lives of people living in poverty while promoting environmental protection.

Applications for the program are open until July 24, and the program itself will begin in September. Acumen will identify businesses with a clear social or environmental mission to work with during the program. Participants in the program will gain access to a supportive network of peers, facilitators, and mentors, and will also become part of Acumen Academy’s global community, The Foundry, which offers technical assistance and potential investment opportunities.

Apple’s vice president of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation, Sarah Chandler, highlighted the company’s commitment to a greener economy and its goal of ensuring that everyone can benefit from clean energy. Acumen’s director in India, Mahesh Yagnaraman, expressed excitement about partnering with Apple to support scalable social businesses in India that are dedicated to improving livelihoods through sustainable energy.

The Energy for Livelihoods accelerator is open to social entrepreneurs in India who operate for-profit social enterprises using sustainable energy solutions in agriculture or allied sectors. Applicants should have a deep commitment to tackling poverty and injustice, an operational track record of at least 12 months, relevant sector experience, and a team with three or more full-time staff. Preference will be given to applicants with five years of eligible work experience.
