The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), a group advocating for employee rights in the IT sector, has lodged a complaint with the labor ministry against Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
NITES alleges that TCS is forcibly transferring more than 2,000 employees without proper consultation. According to the complaint, TCS has initiated transfers to different base locations, giving affected employees 14 days to relocate or face salary deductions.
NITES contends that these actions have placed employees under financial and emotional stress and has urged the labor ministry to investigate whether TCS’s transfer practices violate labor laws.
The letter to the ministry states that TCS has not provided valid reasons for the transfers and has not given employees a fair opportunity to propose alternative solutions.
TCS, on the other hand, characterizes these transfers as routine activities based on present and future requirements in various locations, mostly involving junior employees.
The affected employees, many with 1-2 years of experience, are predominantly from the Hyderabad base location. TCS, with over 600,000 employees, is facing challenges as it tries to bring employees back to base locations and offices after they moved to their hometowns during the pandemic’s work-from-home period.
