Google introduced the WearOS 4 operating system for smartwatches in conjunction with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series back in July. Recently, they also unveiled the Pixel Watch 2 smartwatch, which will come preloaded with WearOS 4. The Pixel Watch 2 will be accessible in India and will offer Audible audiobook compatibility.
In July, when WearOS 4 was launched, Samsung announced that Audible, the Amazon-owned audiobook service, would be coming to WearOS devices. After a few months, Audible is now available on Wear OS.
Google officially confirmed the Audible app’s arrival on the latest WearOS version via a blog post on the Google Play Store. Presently, only a select few Android smartwatches support WearOS 4, including the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series, Galaxy Watch 5 series, Galaxy Watch 6 series, Google Pixel Watch, and Google Pixel Watch 2.
Google outlined how the Audible app would function on WearOS in the blog post, stating, “Audible brings your audiobook library to your wrist so you can listen anywhere, no phone required. Start listening with a tap to your watch, whether you’re on a walk, running errands, or just spending some time unplugged. Dive into your favourite mysteries and thrillers, indulge in romance, or escape into the realms of sci-fi & fantasy with best-selling authors like Neil Gaiman and John Scalzi.”
Furthermore, the app will support offline downloads and allow users to adjust playback speed and select audiobooks from Audible’s library. Alongside Audible, other applications are also available for download on the WearOS version of the Play Store, including WhatsApp and Gmail. Google rolled out the Gmail app for WearOS smartwatches shortly after the Pixel Watch 2 launch, while WhatsApp has been available on the platform since July.
