AutoGPT : Humanoid AI that is more than a one-up on ChatGPT

Imagine a highly specialised version of GPT-4, that can autonomously developed, manage and execute tasks! Yes, AutoGPT, hailed as ChatGPT’s successor, is an experimental open-source AI, that autonomously achieves whatever goal you have set. As one of the first examples of GPT-4 running fully autonomously, Auto-GPT pushes the boundaries of what is possible with AI.

Ever since the AI boom in late November 2022, when OpenAI launched it’s most groundbreaking AI innovation in ChatGPT, there have been numerous additions to the AI Chatbot/Prompt based software array and AutoGPT is the latest addition.

Without huge language models that are trained on Internet datasets, none of this would have been conceivable. Later, GPT-3.5 was released, and ChatGPT is supported by it. In March, this year, the company released GPT-4 both as an API and a feature on ChatGPT Plus. The GPT-4 is the series’ most sophisticated model to date.

The constant addition and improvement of ChatGPT has led to the generation of AutoGPT, which is hailed as the next ‘game-changer’. It all began with the release of an open-source Python application called Auto-GPT and this has changed perceptions around Artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Understanding AutoGPT

To understand AutoGPT, the concept of AGI is crucial. Imagine a time in the future where GPT and other AI models can define activities to accomplish goals and carry them out independently without human assistance. In essence, this is an AGI.

AutoGPT is an experiment or an open-source attempt to make GPT-4 entirely autonomous. Since it’s deployment, the AI’s popularity has been soaring and it is evident on Youtube and social media platforms where programmers are demonstrating the multitude uses of the AI, such as video making, as an agent for internet search and planning, for autonomous coding and debugging, and as an autonomous Twitter bot, writing code, or simply put, anything necessary to achieve the goal that the user has assigned, including rewriting its own code!

“Auto-GPT is an experimental open-source application showcasing the capabilities of the GPT-4 language model. This program, driven by GPT-4, chains together LLM ‘thoughts’, to autonomously achieve whatever goal you set. As one of the first examples of GPT-4 running fully autonomously, Auto-GPT pushes the boundaries of what is possible with AI,” read the description on the GitHub page of the tool.

In addition to managing long-term and short-term memories, GPT-4 sampling for text production, access to well-known websites and platforms, and file storage and summarization with GPT-3.5, Auto-GPT also offers internet access for searching and collecting information. The application runs on Python 3.8 or later, OpenAI API key, and PINECONE API key.

However, the authors have emphasized that this AI is still an experiment and that it may not perform well for real-life scenarios and business models. Plus, the AI is costly to run and requires users to monitor API limits using open AI.

Potential Uses

One of the models is designed to help “increase the net worth of businesses through data-driven decisions.” To construct and run businesses on its own, AutoGPT can take advantage of GPT-4’s capabilities.

The application’s primary goals are to assess market data, find lucrative business prospects, and take appropriate action. Purchasing stocks or other assets, launching fresh marketing initiatives, or creating new products are examples of these actions and tactics.

Due to its foundation in GPT-4, the most sophisticated language model, AutoGPT is able to analyse and comprehend both written and spoken language.

Supply chain management, company development, personalised recommendations, customer service, marketing and advertising, financial analysis, content creation, product development, human resources, cybersecurity, translation, etc. are just a few applications for AutoGPT.

As per AI experts, AutoGPT 4 has the potential to completely change the way we engage with machines and AI.
