As part of its global expansion plan, Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi has now officially announced that it’s coming to India in 2014. The brand known for its aggressive pricing took to micro blogging site Twitter to make the announcement.
“Xiaomi is coming to 10 countries in 2014! Malaysia, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Russia, Turkey, Brazil and Mexico…” reads Xiaomi’s official Twitter handle. The company has however not revealed any specifics regarding the exact launch date.
Earlier, Hugo Barra, vice president of Xiaomi and formerly the vice president of product management for Android had revealed that the company was gearing up to enter India, which is the second-fastest growing smartphone market in the world after China. Xiaomi will further implement the same trade enterprise model in India and Malaysia, which the company uses in Taiwan and Singapore. This means that Xiaomi will be partnering with a local telecom operator and also retail its products from its official website. Currently, it is working on forming relationships with telecom operators and partners in India.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi will soon be coming up with its first LTE smartphone. Xiaomi has a unique business model, in that it makes a limited number of smartphones that are sold only on the internet. The Hongmi Note also called known as Redmi Note was earlier made official via a teaser posted on the Qzone website. The smartphone is now available for pre-order. The device features an octa-core processor with 1 GB RAM, and a16 GB of internal storage.
