The latest smartwatch by Com 1 has its USP in its low price and it will be the first smartwatch offering a MIPS-based Ingenics XBurst processor.
ITVoice News: An Android Wear smartwatch has arrived from a “Com 1″ Indiegogo project, which uses a Ingenics MIPS SoC for the first time. The special features of the watch include IP67 waterproof, Wi-Fi and also its price – $125. The Com 1 Android Wear watch has been developed by Com LLC in Brooklyn.
The watch targets to reach $75,000 funding by Indiegogo by 6 October. The Android Wear platform is supported by major vendors across the globe including Samsung, Motorola, LG and Sony. But the latest smartwatch by Com 1 has its USP in its low price and it will be the first smartwatch offering a MIPS-based Ingenics XBurst processor. The Indiegogo backers who come fast for the Android Wear smartwatch can get their hands upon it for $125, which will be raised soon, but the increased price will also be affordable enough, around $145.
The watch will start shipping to funding members in December and non-backers of the product will get it for $195. The Com 1 is being developed for last one year. The prototype of the model suggests that it uses the Ingenics Newton computer-on-module based wearables development platform. The Newton is a good alternative to Intel’s Edison module for wearables and it also runs Linux along with Android. It’s claimed that Com 1 will offer up to two days of battery life and it features 4GB storage and 4.06-cm (1.6-inch) 320 x 320-pixel touchscreen display. It also features Bluetooth, NFC and Wi-Fi connectivity, the last one being quite uncommon in other smartwatches. The watch has an “aluminium 6061″ frame along with a stainless steel option.
