At a glittering ceremony held in Delhi yesterday, CP Gurnani, MD & CEO of Tech Mahindra was given the prestigious Dataquest IT Person of the Year Award for 2013. The jury chose C P Gurnani for his exemplary contribution in making Tech Mahindra India’s fifth largest IT services company. Jury credited Gurnani with turning around Tech Mahindra and making it into India’s fifth largest IT services company. He was also credited with managing the integration of Mahindra Satyam with Tech Mahindra and for setting the organization on a new path of growth and leadership.
After receiving the award from Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, CP Gurnani, MD & CEO of Tech Mahindra said, “It feels great to be honored with the Dataquest IT person of the Year award 2013. This award is also for my 85,000 employees who worked across tight deadlines in difficult times as these to deliver to over 6 lakh active customers making Tech Mahindra achieve a growth rate of 25%. We are committed to giving value to our potential and existing stakeholders through our solutions and services. ”
Ajai Chowdhry, Padma Bhushan, Founder Member, HCL Technologies was conferred Lifetime Achievement Award 2013. He was selected for this honour as jury felt he played a key role in driving India’s IT hardware and electronics industry. Commenting upon the momentous occasion Chowdhry said, “A Lifetime Achievement Award ideally means it’s time to hang your boots but I am never going to do that. I will continue to guide the new breed of CEOs the same way my mentors have relentlessly chosen to do so.”
The Pathbreaker of the Year 2013 had joint winners in UIDAI and InMobi. UIDAI was credited for making Aadhaar as the second biggest technology revolution in India after the telecom revolution which touched every life in the country. InMobi was recognized for creating mobile-first customer engagement platform. On behalf of UIDAI, Ashok Pal Singh, Deputy Director General, UID Authority of India received the award. The award on behalf of InMobi was received by Sudha Tewary and Vandita Tewary.
The Jury for the selection of awards included some of the prominent names from the industry: Vanitha Narayayan MD, IBM India, Aruna Jayanthi, MD, Capgemini India, Prof Deepak B. Phatak, IIT Bombay, Rajesh Janey, MD, EMC India, Rajiv Srivastava, President, HP India (PSG), PVG Menon, President IESA, Francisco D. D’Souza, CEO, Cognizant Tech Services, and Pradeep Gupta, CMD, CyberMedia.
Widely recognized as the premier business awards for ICT industry in India, these awards also honored individuals and organizations for 40 categories in IT & Telecom domains. Top CEOs of IT and Telecom Companies also attended the round table conference with Narendra Modi and shared their recommendations with him. Raj Kumar Dhoot, Member, Rajya Sabha and Former ASSOCHAM President felicitated Mr Narendra Modi. The annual gala was attended by more than 400 Top executives of ICT Industry.
