WhatsApp is gearing up to introduce a new feature that will allow users to modify captions associated with photos on the messaging platform. This enhancement, already in the process of being deployed to select users, is part of WhatsApp’s recent series of updates. As per reports, users will soon have the ability to edit captions for various media formats like photos, videos, GIFs, and documents. While some users have already gained access to this feature, it’s anticipated that others will also receive it in the upcoming days. This capability will be accessible to both Android and iOS users.
Earlier in May, WhatsApp had introduced the option to edit text messages within a chat. Users were granted a window of up to 15 minutes post-sending to amend their messages, a move celebrated for granting greater control over conversations. However, until now, altering captions attached to media content like pictures, videos, and GIFs was not possible. With this latest update, WhatsApp effectively addresses this limitation. Now, users can edit media messages in a manner similar to text messages, involving a long press on the sent media content accompanied by its caption, followed by selecting the edit option. The editing window for media messages also spans 15 minutes from the moment of dispatch.
In addition to caption edits, WhatsApp recently announced that it will facilitate the transmission of high-definition (HD) photos via the app. This development was highly anticipated, given that the app had previously compressed images, often resulting in diminished image quality. The new feature enables users to send top-quality images to their contacts without the worry of compression.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta (formerly Facebook), touched upon this update in a Facebook post, highlighting the improved photo-sharing experience on WhatsApp. The post included a video demonstration elucidating how to send photos in either HD or standard quality.
