Elon Musk might have a reply for ChatGPT and OpenAI

Based on newly discovered Corporate documents, Elon Musk, Chairman and CEO of Tesla Motors Inc. ,has registered an artificial intelligence agency called X.AI Corporation in Nevada, United States.

Musk has been registered as the Chairman of the company among rumours that he is in the works for a response to OpenAI and ChatGPT. Earlier on Friday, the Financial Times reported, citing sources familiar with Elon Musk’s plans, that the billionaire was developing an artificial intelligence start-up to compete with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI.

Musk recently combined Twitter with a brand-new shell corporation named “X,” keeping the brand name but doing rid of the core operation. Despite Musk’s prior demand for a halt in AI development, this move is considered as a potential rival to OpenAI, the company that developed ChatGPT.

In spite of recent cost cutting and layoffs at Twitter, Musk has reportedly invested in powerful computing tech as well as engineering talent for AI development at Twitter.

It’s important to note that X.AI was established before Musk signed an open letter calling for a six-month hiatus in the creation of potent AI systems. The letter was published on the website of the Future of Life Institute, a project Musk supported.

While Microsoft and other big corporations are fast at work to develop Generative AI models,

Elon did comment that “AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity.”

According to the Financial Times, Musk has purchased thousands of Graphics Processing Units from Nvidia Corp., which power the computers needed for complex tasks like AI and advanced graphics. On Friday, the report led to a rise in the share price of the chip maker, which declined to comment.

It is still unclear whether Musk has purchased X.Inc. as an attempt to further progress in AI. Musk has also refused to respond to a request for comment from Reuters on the same.
