Starting on June 5, WWDC23 is expected to be a huge conference. Apple occasionally makes significant hardware announcements in addition to providing us with sneak peeks of new operating systems. So what will the renowned iPhone manufacturer reveal this year? Although there isn’t an official list of what will happen yet, we do have a few ideas.
Software
WWDC is Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference, and as per tradition, it’s an event where the tech giant typically showcases its upcoming software releases. This year’s event, WWDC23, will likely focus on previews of new OS versions for iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and other devices, including tvOS and the HomePod’s audioOS.
However, specific details about the updates are scarce since software leaks are not common. Despite this, rumors suggest that iOS 17 could include highly requested features, and watchOS 10 might be the most significant update for the Apple Watch in years. Nonetheless, there is little to speculate about since there are no confirmed details yet.
Hardware
Apple has not officially confirmed any hardware announcements for its upcoming WWDC event, but rumors and leaks have suggested that we might see the much-awaited mixed-reality headset at the conference.
Though there are some reports that the device may not be ready yet, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman still believes that we’ll see it during WWDC23. This announcement is likely to be one of the most exciting of the event, and we may also get more information about the device’s OS and development tools.
However, it’s possible that Apple will hold off on the actual release of the headset until a later date.
There are also rumors of new Macs being announced at WWDC23, similar to last year’s launch of the M2 chip and MacBook Air M2. The company could introduce the M3 chip and a rumored 15.5-inch MacBook Air, as well as migrating the Mac Pro to its own silicon.
Additionally, there’s a chance that Apple may give the Mac Studio a refresh with improved internals. However, it’s important to note that these hardware announcements are based on rumors and leaks, so nothing is certain until the event itself.
What to Not Expect
We probably won’t see any new devices at aside the aforementioned Macs because the event is focused on software and development. The iPhone SE 4 isn’t anticipated until 2024, and the Apple Watch Series 9 and iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro are each planned to debut in the fall. This WWDC, no new iPads are anticipated either.
