“Foxconn Expresses Strong Commitment to India, Marking the Commencement of a New Era for the Country”

Foxconn’s India representative, V Lee, took to LinkedIn to express the company’s ambitions in India during the Hon Hai Tech Day 2023 event held on October 18. In the post, Lee referred to the event as a significant milestone, marking the commencement of a new era for India, emphasizing a dedication to electric vehicles (EVs) and semiconductors. Interestingly, this statement followed Google’s announcement of plans to manufacture its flagship Pixel smartphone in India.

Foxconn, a major contract manufacturer for Apple worldwide, ventured into India in 2005 and currently operates nine campuses in the country, generating an annual turnover of approximately $10 billion.

Recent reports suggest that Foxconn is evaluating potential locations for its EV manufacturing ventures, with Tamil Nadu being one of the states under consideration. Lee’s comment on a LinkedIn post regarding Tamil Nadu’s emergence as an EV investment hub indicated the company’s interest, stating, “Coming.” This suggests that Foxconn is considering Tamil Nadu as a suitable location for its ambitious electric vehicle plans. Notably, Foxconn already has an iPhone manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, employing around 40,000 individuals.

Lee mentioned that Foxconn is actively exploring EV opportunities in various Indian states, emphasizing the regionalized production of cars, which is in line with their established factories in Ohio and Thailand. The company’s chairman, Young Liu, has also indicated their plans to set up a production facility in India shortly.

In a LinkedIn post from the previous month, Lee mentioned the company’s intention to double its investment and workforce in India within the next year, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 73rd birthday.

Additionally, it was reported in August that the Karnataka state government announced Foxconn’s plans to invest $600 million in two projects, involving casing components for iPhones and chip-making equipment.
