Fujitsu announced the introduction of its new GRANNOTE brand personal computer (LIFEBOOK AH90/P), available exclusively in Japan for active, mature adults, primarily around 60 years of age. The new model is set to go on sale in Japan on February 13.
The GRANNOTE brand is built around the concept of a refined computer that will enrich the lifestyles of sophisticated consumers who place a premium on design and ease of use. The model has a clean design that resonates with mature sensibilities: a keyboard with highly legible keycaps and outstanding tactile action, a clear and vivid display, and automatic screen color and backlight calibration to match ambient conditions. The new laptop is built with an attention to detail that makes it easy to use and desirable to own. Fujitsu is also offering GRANNOTE customers the “GRANNOTE Service Pack,” which includes special access to its carefully selected list of network services and free phone support, for a secure, worry-free experience.
In addition, with My Cloud, Fujitsu’s cloud service for individuals, customers can use the “Omoide Photo Service(1)”, which uploads printed photographs into online albums. Up to 50 photos can be uploaded free of charge the first time the service is used.
Fujitsu aims to serve as a life partner to mature consumers through the new GRANNOTE brand.
Product Features
1. Enriched lifestyles with services only GRANNOTE can offer
GRANNOTE comes bundled with the GRANNOTE Service Pack for a secure, worry-free computing experience. GRANNOTE users get the benefit of special access to network services carefully selected by Fujitsu, and are offered support service via telephone or remote access operations for the initial setup process. GRANNOTE provides access to the “Raku-Raku Community,” a social network that users can easily activate and enjoy by accessing the Windows Start screen. This social network lets users connect to discuss their hobbies and topics of interest, and to broaden their experience with the Internet. They also include custom GRANNOTE Office templates for a variety of purposes, including personal histories and travel guides.
2. Designed specifically for ease of use
Fujitsu human-centric technologies, which have been refined over many years, are built into GRANNOTE, with a focus on making operations easy for the user.
1) Easy viewing and listening
GRANNOTE marks the first time that the Human Centric Engine(2), now driving Fujitsu smartphones, makes an appearance in a personal computer. This ensures optimal usability tailored to personal and ambient conditions.
To enhance screen visibility, Fujitsu offers “Intellicolor” to automatically adjust color tone to match the ambient brightness, depending on whether the surroundings are lit with fluorescent, incandescent, or natural lighting. “Awaseru View” lets users preset the color balance they feel best suits their age.
For hearing, users are aided with “Awaseru Voice,” which automatically adjusts the volume levels of high-frequency sounds depending on the age that users had entered previously. By selectively adjusting high-frequency sounds that become harder to hear as one ages, spoken words in movies, videos, and live online chats all become significantly easier to comprehend.
2) Ease of use
The keyboard and trackpad have both been rigorously engineered down to the finest detail to maximize ease of use. The keyboard uses an approximately 3-mm key stroke and 18.4-mm key pitch for satisfying key action and comfortable hand placement. The keyboard even uses three different key weights tailored to different finger strengths. The little finger or pinky finger, for example, types with less force, and so the keys that it presses are weighted for a lighter touch, while the keys that the thumbs press need more force to register a click. All of these subtle factors combine to make a keyboard that allows for smoother input with a satisfying feel. Similarly, the touchpad is designed with a button that gives reassuring feedback when pressed, helping prevent mistaken clicks and contributing to a stress-free experience.
3. External appearance that resonates with mature tastes
With a simple, elegant black-based color scheme that will retain its new feel, and a surface around the keyboard area that resembles a single sheet of glass, GRANNOTE features a restrained, attractive design that suits mature tastes.
The surface around the keyboard area gives the impression of a single, seamless sheet of ground glass, while the matte surface not only conveys a sense of quality, it also cuts reflections and naturally conceals fingerprints. When a user’s hands are placed on the keyboard, internal sensors automatically turn on an internal backlight, providing illumination in low-light environments to make the keys clearly distinguishable. Backlighting also makes for an attractive image as it seem that the keys are floating above the chassis.
Designed for easy viewing, users can easily keep an eye on the backlit icons positioned around the keyboard. The GRANNOTE mouse has an elegant design that complements the laptop and has a shape that is easy to hold. To further enhance the usability of Windows 8.1, it includes a dedicated start button and zoom function.
4. Solid basic performance
For fast processing and advanced graphics performance, GRANNOTE comes with the 4th generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4500U processor, along with approximately 1-TB hard drives and 8 GB of memory, giving these machines the power to edit high-definition video or execute multiple tasks simultaneously. With box-type speakers developed in collaboration with Pioneer and a slot-loading BDXL(TM)-compatible Blu-Ray drive, GRANNOTE delivers solid performance, enabling users to enjoy high-quality video and audio.
5. My Cloud gives shape to your important memories
With My Cloud, Fujitsu’s cloud service for individuals, users can easily manage their important photographic memories. Simply by waving an NFC-equipped smartphone near their computer, F-LINK will automatically load all the photos taken with the smartphone to the computer, and My Cloud will create an album automatically.
With Omoide Photo Service, GRANNOTE users can have up to fifty photo prints digitized free of charge as part of their basic service charge the first time they use the service. Photos digitized with the Omoide Photo Service can be used to assemble personal histories using the custom GRANNOTE Office templates included with purchase, or to create unique photo books using the “My Cloud Start” Windows Store app.
