Google Maps gains AR-based Live View, EV charging info

A number of new features have been added to Google Maps, including improved real-time EV charger information and Live View in several countries. In order to maintain its position as one of the top mapping apps for iPhone and Android, Google Maps has been upgraded with new features and improvements to current ones. This latest upgrade is particularly significant if you also drive an EV.

Beginning with the augmented reality component, Google says Live View is now available for users of its Maps app on iOS and Android in London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, San Francisco, and Tokyo. By holding up their device and using the map and directional data displayed directly on the screen, users of Live View can use AR to identify places of interest like coffee shops and retailers.

EV drivers have long had access to real-time information about nearby charging stations. However, Google Maps now has a new filter that enables users to select areas that support fast charging. That refers to those having 50kW or higher chargers so that automobiles and trucks can be charged more quickly.

The global extension of information about stair-free and wheelchair-accessible locations is another improvement. Prior to this update, the feature was only accessible in Australia, Japan, the UK, and the US. The Google Maps app’s Accessible Places feature allows users to view information about accessible dining, restrooms, and parking.  On the device of your choosing, the Google Maps app should already reflect all of these changes.
