Google Photos will introduce support for the Ultra HDR image format with the release of Android 14

Google Photos is reportedly preparing to introduce support for the Ultra HDR image format, as evidenced by code strings found in Google Photos version 6.51.0.561138754.

This feature is expected to significantly enhance picture quality by offering a wider range of brightness and shadow information compared to standard JPEG files.

The Ultra HDR support is anticipated to be integrated into the Photos app with the release of Android 14.

Google had previously announced HDR effects for videos and the Magic Eraser feature for Google One subscribers, expanding its photo editing capabilities.
