India saw an unprecedented 20% decline in Q1 shipments – Canalys Report

Source: Canalys

A difficult start to the year was revealed in Canalys’ report on the Indian market, which was published. Only 30 million shipments were made overall by all makers, a 20% annual decline in the market.

Only Oppo experienced a spectacular 18% growth in shipments, which enabled the manufacturer to surpass vivo and Xiaomi and climb into second place. Four out of the top five firms experienced a fall in shipments.

According to Sanyam Chaurasia, an analyst at Canalys, the Indian market struggled in the first quarter because of weak demand. To react to shifting customer behaviour, businesses are realigning their strategy. To secure a long-term position in the market, they optimise R&D, local sourcing, manufacturing, retail, and manufacturing.

Chaurasia continued by saying that enterprises that performed well in the offline sector showed consistency during the first quarter, while vendors with strong channel management handled the blow well. One of them is Samsung, whose debuts of the Galaxy A and Galaxy S between January and March helped to lessen the blow. Apple wants to take part in the offline war and establish its brand in the nation.

In India, the mass-market sector is the most well-liked, but in 2023, it is also anticipated to experience the greatest difficulties. Users are more inclined to spend on midranger products as their disposable income gradually grows, whereas mid-tier users like more expensive equipment.
