The two-day AI Safety Summit commenced on November 1 at Bletchley Park in the southern part of England. It stands as the world’s inaugural gathering on AI, hosting discussions on the risks brought about by artificial intelligence, with the participation of technology executives and political leaders. IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar was present and delivered a speech during the opening plenary session.
He presented India’s stance on AI, underlining the country’s commitment to safety, trust, and responsibility in AI development. Chandrasekhar stressed that AI should only be used for positive advancements and the collective prosperity of citizens worldwide. He emphasized the necessity of global cooperation in this domain for shaping the future of technology, recognizing the immense opportunities it presents.
At the Bletchley Park event in Buckinghamshire, the minister spoke about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s viewpoint. Modi advocates for a coalition of nations to steer the future of technology, encouraging innovation, partnerships, and regulatory frameworks aimed at benefiting all humankind. Chandrasekhar affirmed that India is a flourishing digital economy that’s progressively improving citizens’ lives through technological advancements and will further do so through AI.
He highlighted AI’s significant role in advancing India’s digital economy, governance, and overall growth. Recognizing the vast opportunities AI offers, Chandrasekhar asserted that India is clear on its strategies to counterbalance any potential adverse effects of AI and emerging technologies.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of regulating innovation to prevent the proliferation of toxicity and misinformation, particularly seen in social media’s impact on the internet today. The government’s approach underscores the necessity of synchronized innovation and regulation to maintain a beneficial and safe technological landscape.
