iPhone 14 users receive a complimentary one-year extension of Emergency SOS through satellite

Apple extended the complimentary access to Emergency SOS via satellite for existing iPhone 14 users in the US, Canada, and several other countries. The service, introduced with the iPhone 14 lineup, was initially offered free for two years from the activation of the device. Now, Apple has decided to extend the free trial for an additional year for users who activated their iPhone 14 before November 15, 2023. This extension provides users with an extra year of access to Emergency SOS via satellite without any additional charges.

Emergency SOS via satellite was initially launched in the US and Canada, and later expanded to several European countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and others. The service is designed to offer connectivity in emergency situations even when users are outside cellular and Wi-Fi coverage areas. In addition to Emergency SOS, Apple introduced other safety features, such as Roadside Assistance via satellite, Crash Detection, Check In, and Medical ID in the Health app. Roadside Assistance connects users to AAA in case of car trouble, and Crash Detection automatically calls emergency services if it detects a severe impact. The Check In feature allows users to share their location with selected contacts, and Medical ID provides critical health information to first responders without requiring a passcode.

The extension of the free trial for Emergency SOS via satellite aligns with Apple’s commitment to enhancing user safety and ensuring that users have access to critical services during emergencies, even in locations with limited connectivity.
