LG G3 to sport laser autofocus camera

2013 Consumer Electronics Show Highlights Newest Technology

LG’s upcoming flagship smartphone G3, set to debut on May 27, will reportedly feature a laser autofocus system. According to a report in The Verge, “Like HTC’s second camera sensor on the One, this laser will detect the depth of the subject you want to photograph and help minimize the time it takes to go from tapping the digital shutter to capturing the photo.”

Laser systems are said to be better than optical systems in terms of precision and speed.

“Fast and reliable autofocus is a signature part of the iPhone’s universal appeal as a cameraphone. Few recent competitors have managed to match it, let alone beat it, but LG might just have a chance now that lasers are involved,” the report adds.

Other leaked details about the rear camera suggest a 13MP sensor with optical image stabilization. At the front, the phone is likely to have a 2.1MP camera.

LG G3 is expected to be the first smartphone by a top manufacturer to feature QHD display (2560x1440p resolution). The G3 is said to be powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core snapdragon 800 processor, the same processor that powers the LG G2. On the other hand, latest top-end smartphones in the market use the newer Snapdragon 801 chipset.

Other key LG G3 specifications are 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, microSD expansion, 13MP rear camera and 2MP front camera. The smartphone is expected to have connectivity options like 4G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and be resistant to water and dust.

Powered by Android 4.4 (KitKat), LG’s new G3 smartphone is said to feature a revamped user interface, with flatter icons and a personal assistant similar to Google Now, Siri, S Voice and Cortana.
