MediaTek has announced its Pentonic 1000 chipset for smart TVs with 4K and 120HZ support

Recently, numerous new chipsets were launched by MediaTek across various market segments. The new Pentonic 1000 chipset is also one of these newly launched chipsets and supports Ultra High-Definition resolutions and fast refresh rates for smart TVs.

MediaTek is one of the biggest international chipmakers and also one of the biggest manufacturers of TV processors. These powerful chipsets from the likes of MediaTek allows smart TVs to provide more functionality over the regular non-smart TV model. The chipmaker has now launched the Pentonic 1000 chips, which are positioned as the newest flagship TV SoC with premium features from MediaTek. The new chipset also enables support for 4K resolution at 120Hz refresh rate.

On top of this, the Pentonic 1000 chips will also include WiFi 6/6E, MEMC technology to improve video quality, Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail, and an 8-screen Intelligent View which allows users to view multiple streams simultaneously.

The MediaTek Pentonic 1000 SoC will have a “multicore CPU” in addition to a dual core GPU, an APU, and video decoding engines, according to official notes. Additionally, VRR up to 4K 144Hz for gaming may be supported by TVs with this chipset. However, the default option is typically 4K 120Hz. The new processor also includes an Auto Low Latency Mode, or ALLM, which could improve gaming performance. The new chipset, in particular, supports playback of AV1, HEVC, VP9, and even VVC or H.266.

According to Alex Chen, GM of MediaTek TV Business Unit, “We designed the MediaTek Pentonic 1000 specifically to accommodate today’s smart TV trends, including 4K streaming, cloud gaming, video conferencing and watch parties. With support for 4K HDR content, 120Hz frame rates, MEMC, AI enhancements, Wi-Fi 6/6E connectivity and cutting-edge codecs like VVC, Pentonic 1000 will deliver the ultimate 4K viewing experience.”
