Meta is discontinuing its Messenger Lite app for Android, with the shutdown set to take effect in September.
The app, designed as a lighter alternative for accessing the Messenger platform, will prompt users to switch to the main Messenger app upon opening.
Meta confirmed the closure and mentioned that starting from August 21, Messenger Lite users on Android will be directed to either Messenger or FB Lite for messaging purposes.
This move follows another recent change by Meta, where Messenger will no longer function as the default SMS app on Android after September 28th.
