Microsoft is discontinuing support for the Microsoft 365 browser extension, a free extension available on browsers like Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome, offering access to Microsoft 365 apps and documents on the web. With over 6 million users on Chrome and over 4 million installations on Edge, the extension will be retired on January 15, 2024.
After this date, it will no longer receive security updates, non-security updates, bug fixes, or technical support. Microsoft will also remove the extension from the Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome web stores.
Microsoft Edge users are advised to remove the extension by signing in with their Microsoft Account, selecting the Microsoft 365 browser extension icon next to the address bar, and choosing “Remove from Microsoft Edge” in Settings or managing extensions to uninstall it.
For Chrome users, the process involves signing in, selecting the extension icon, choosing “Remove from Chrome” in Settings, or managing extensions to uninstall.
Despite the discontinuation, users can still access Microsoft 365 apps for free on the web at www.microsoft365.com and bookmark the page in the Chrome browser for convenient access.
