Nokia, now operated by Microsoft’s devices business, has been rumoured to be working on a ‘selfie’ Windows Phone for some time now.
previous month, Stephen Elop reportedly showed off the unannounced selfie- focused smartphone with a 5-megapixel front camera at an internal company meeting.
at the present, the supposed selfie-focused Lumia smartphone from Microsoft has been marked in the wild. Windows Phone Central has obtain a couple of the images that purportedly shows the ‘Superman’ handset that is being called the Lumia 730, the anticipated successor to the popular Lumia 720. The site claims that the handset features a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, in-line with what Elop allegedly showed off.
Further, the site suggests that the alleged Lumia 730, aka ‘Superman’, comes with a 4.7-inch display, which will be again a bump-up from the Lumia 720’s (Review | Pictures) 4.3-inch display.
One of the leaked images also shows the alleged Lumia 730 running an unannounced ‘Lumia Debian Red’ version of Windows Phone, which WP Central speculates could be company’s version of the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 that is expected to be available to the general public later this year.
Earlier this week, Microsoft announced it had begun rolling-out the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 in its preview form for developers, and brought Cortana in ‘alpha’ form to India.
We have in the past seen a number of handset makers releasing smartphones with advanced rear camera capabilities (and a few exceptional ones with swivel-based cameras serving both sides). However, if a new report is to be believed, Microsoft’s Nokia with its photography expertise might change this paradigm with its upcoming selfie-focused Windows Phone device – though of course, there have been other smartphones with 5-megapixel front-facing cameras.
Notably, Sony, cashing-in on the growing ‘selfie’ trend, launched the Xperia C3 alongside its dual-SIM variant, the Xperia C3 Dual, last month with a globally roll-out due in August.
In addition to the alleged Lumia 730, Microsoft is also rumoured to be working on an Android-powered Lumia smartphone flaunting the “Nokia by Microsoft” branding, dubbed Lumia 830.
